Toasted Coconut in 3 Ways

There's nothing like the sweet crunch of freshly toasted coconut. You can catch us snacking on this instant treat for days on end! There are different ways to toast coconut, but our favorite by far is the classic toast - simply toasted in the oven. But if you're in a pinch and need some quick toasted coconut for a recipe (or just straight to your mouth as we like it), there are other options for you! Read on to see how you can toast coconut in 3 easy ways.

Toast in Microwave

This is probably the quickest way to toast coconut. With the microwave, the coconut comes out nicely browned, although it's soft and chewy without the crunch you usually get from toasting over a stovetop or in the oven. But we don't mind this too much, especially if we need it in a pinch!

To toast coconut in the microwave:

  1. Place 2 cups Fiesta Tropicalé Shredded Coconut in a large glass container (make sure it's microwave-safe).

  2. Spread the coconut evenly on the bottom of the container.

  3. Microwave for around 5 minutes or until coconut is lightly browned, stopping at each minute to stir the coconut and spread it evenly again.

  4. Remove from heat and immediately transfer coconut to another dish.

  5. Let the toasted coconut cool completely.

Toast over Stovetop

Toasting coconut by stovetop proved challenging to us and did not yield the toasted consistency we were looking for. Some coconut shreds came out over-crisp and almost burnt while other shreds were just lightly toasted. However, if a stovetop is the only cooking option for you, this is still a solid method, but may need some extra attention while stirring the coconut over heat.

To toast coconut over the stovetop:

  1. Place 2 cups Fiesta Tropicalé Shredded Coconut in a large pan. Spread the coconut evenly on the bottom of the pan.

  2. Cook over medium-low heat for 4 to 6 minutes. You must keep stirring the coconut to keep parts from overcooking.

  3. Cook and stir until most of the coconut shreds are browned.

  4. Remove from heat and immediately transfer coconut to another dish.

  5. Let the toasted coconut cool completely.

Toast in the Oven

Straight out of the oven, you'll witness the most beautiful golden-brown toasted coconut to fill your home with delicious tropical aroma. The evenness of the toasted shreds just can't be beat, and you'll get a crisp bite that'll raise the bar on any dessert. It may take a little longer than the other methods, but it's worth the wait!

To toast coconut in the oven:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Place 2 cups Fiesta Tropicalé Shredded Coconut on a large baking sheet.

  3. Spread the coconut evenly on the sheet.

  4. Place in oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the coconut is golden brown.

  5. Stir the coconut every 2 to 3 minutes to make sure coconut is toasting evenly.

  6. Remove from heat and immediately transfer coconut to another dish.

  7. Let the toasted coconut cool completely.

Note:

  • You can use Fiesta Tropicalé Unsweetened Shredded Coconut or Fiesta Tropicalé Sweetened Shredded Coconut for toasting. Both will taste great!
